2024 SIGN THIS "SAVE OUR ORCHARD" PETITION
We, the residents of the City of Los Altos and Bay Area preservationists, are deeply concerned about the taking of protected historic LOS ALTOS HERITAGE ORCHARD land, tree sites and trees on the Civic Center for current and future development projects in and adjacent to this historic working agricultural orchard. And want to stop the long-term neglect of this historic working orchard by the City of Los Altos.
We are signing this petition to take action to protect and restore our prized historical asset, and insist the City meet their requirements and commitments of historic preservation as a Certified Local Government. We want to take immediate and qualified steps toward reclaiming the historic land and orchard trees at the Civic Center, and demand the City of Los Altos fund adequate, qualified staffing, funding and oversight to meet its commitment to plan for and take care of this valuable resource on public land. We want to freeze all additional project contemplations, alterations, changes, tree removals and development impacts to this historic resource - which includes the landmark area and all remaining apricot trees at the Civic Center stipulated as protected and registered with the State of California. See the 7 Major Impact Zones July 2024 here. This is the only way Los Altos can STOP the "death by a thousand cuts" and get back on the right path to meeting our obligations for historical preservation and retaining our treasured historic working orchard for the future. "Save Our Orchard: Save Los Altos!"
This historic resource designation assures that no alteration, changes, trees removed will be made in or adjacent to the Heritage (Civic Center) Orchard without proper survey, EIR and public hearings. - 1991 Quote; Los Altos Historical Commission, at the ceremony designating the Los Altos Heritage Orchard a protected historic resource.
